Huw V Williams Trio

Saturday 9th October 2021

Huw V Williams ~ double bass and compositions

Composer and bass player, Huw previously led the ebullient quintet HON playing his original music and featuring Laura Jurd (trumpet) and Elliot Galvin (accordion). He's performed alongside many of the best practitioners on the international avant-garde music scene including Jim Black, Huw Warren and Jeff Williams. Huw won the prestigious Yamaha Jazz Scholars Prize from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2012.

Huw says, 'I really like the idea of music coming from the mixing pot of all your history, so this is as much about a teenage rock phase in North Wales as a mid-20s free jazz phase in London.'

George Crowley ~ saxophones

Since his arrival in London in 2007, the saxophonist and clarinettist has established himself as a key player and tireless promoter on the city's burgeoning creative jazz and improv scene. George is active across a range of styles and brings his considerable talents to Melt Yourself Down, Magpie Trio, Olie Brice Quintet and Yazz Ahmed's band. He currently leads his own dynamic trio featuring Rob Luft (guitar) and Tim Giles (drums).

'Rarely does a player so young debut with such a fully rounded tone and range of writing skills, so keep an ear out for Crowley, the future could yet be his.' Jazzwise
