Nick Malcolm's j a d e

jade is a new project from trumpeter and composer Nick Malcolm. The group deconstructs through sampling and contemporary improvisation original compositions influenced by the AACM, JDilla, Burial, and English church music. It features leading bassist Will Harris, Birmingham based drummer and producer Ric Yarborough and Get The Blessing saxophonist Jake McMurchie.

Nick is one of the foremost musicians in UK contemporary jazz and free improvisation. He has had a gig broadcast on BBC Radio 3's Jazz on 3, released two albums to critical acclaim (a third is on its way) and toured his music nationally including at London and Manchester jazz festivals. He has worked with musicians like Alexander Hawkins, Olie Brice, Corey Mwamba, Hannah Marshall and Mark Sanders. He is a Take Five Edition IX artist, a professional development scheme for emerging creative jazz musicians run by Serious. He also plays regularly with UK folk legend Eliza Carthy in her Wayward Band.

' ...a supremely gifted musician...a trumpet player for the twenty first century fully conversant with the post-war history of his instrument...' - Bebop Spoken Here.
