Shapeshifter is a bold new trio featuring three very special creative voices of the UK scene.
Mark Lockheart ~ saxophones, bass clarinet and electronics
Huw V Williams ~ double bass
Jay Davis ~ drums
Creating a unique sonic experience this new trio shifts moment to moment, gracefully and spontaneously stitching together sound landscapes and grooves. The three members share the writing credits alongside a few carefully chosen works by Bill Frisell, Joe Henderson and Paul Motian. Taking the exploratory spirit of groups like Polar Bear and Malija, the band move together through a common language of jazz, rock, classical and free improvisation exploring dark textures and dramatic musical shifts as they revel in the unexpected!
Shapeshifter's debut album will be released on vinyl and CD on 6th March 2026.
All crucial musicians and composers on the UK music scene, between them Shapeshifter have played with a glittering array of artists including: Dave Holland, Django Bates, Jim Black, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Huw Warren, Laura Jurd, Rob Luft, Elliot Galvin and Radiohead.
